All the fuss about an 'historic announcement' had the whole world on tenterhooks. I waited on 3rd December for some earth-shattering headlines in the media. Not a single mention on any news channels I watched. Instead, I had to look up the report on NASA's website. Reading the report, it seemed the most historic thing about it was that the chemical analyser was actually fully functional. It found carbon traces. Wow! Remnant indicator of a carbon-based life-form? Er, no. Possibly contamination of the analysis chamber before Curiosity left Earth. Congrats all round to NASA, but the 'historic announcement' was a bit of a let-down.

Yes a definite let down, mine you the Mars rover still has a long way to go.
It has 2 years traveling time yet before it gets to it's principle destination, the crater that they think has the greatest chance of finding evidence of past life. This was really just a test analysis.
