The section on 'Self-care techniques', on the NHS website, probably doesn't tell you much - but a look at 'Lifestyle changes' might be worthwhile:

Very helpful- glad I asked. Shall bookmark. Many thanks.
1-2 tsps. Apple cider vinegar,1-2 tsps. honey(local-organic if poss.),
250 mls(8oz)Purified water(warm enough to melt honey).Mix together.
Take twice a day after meals(not sure how much to take so maybe 2tsps. It says `see the benefits in a week`. Worth a try though.
My nurse friend says celery salt.

I've heard Cherry Active is very good
Black Cherry concentrate from Holland and Barrett worked well for my OH.
In short....NO........tried and tested?.....definitely NO.

What is your objection to safe, effective drugs...one of which Colchicine comes from plants?

90% of cases of gout.......are genetic. Lifestyle changes MAY just may reduce the attacks but that is as good as it will get.

Drug therapy is safe and effective.........use them.
My OH is on drugs now Allopurinol.(Naproxin) where necessary. But Did find Cherry helpful. Also finds drinking Beer do'es not help, can make the problem extremely worse.
fred.....I thought that Allopurinol and Naproxin were two different drugs............"...
Squad they are .
fred.......;-)
Oops Sqad without the (u).
Sorry fred, just noticed the dot between the end of Allopurinol and the start of brackets for Naproxin.............my error.
Thankyou for that sqad, I was going to reply with reference to that.
I take 100mg Allopurinol tablet daily and have on standby colchicine tablets in case of an unexpected attack which are brilliant for getting rid of the pain.
I'm on allopurinol - a lot but it works and seems to have no side-effects.
jno, do you drink lots of water? my OH was told to drink glasses and glasses of it.
Prevention is better than cure, so try and narrow down which aspect of your diet is causing the gout to flare.

For me, it's sausages - so i avoid them, and bacon, which I adore, so I'll take the risk and pay the price if it happens.
no, Fred, though I suppose anything which flushes through your system helps. But at my time of life I'm already going to the loo quite often enough, especially at night.
