Thump in the heart...
5 Answers
That's the only way I can think to describe it. It's like a massive thump, and is definitely in the heart.
It happens a couple of times a week and, when it does, my head goes a bit 'funny'. Again, I don't really know how to describe that, but it's like a very quick head rush/lightheadedness.
It's a very quick "thump" and then nothing.
Someone at work said they also get it, from time to time.
Is it common and what causes it?
Thanks :-)

Have you any pre existing underlying medical conditions?
Are you on any medication, if so what?
This " thump" how long does it last for seconds, minutes an hour?
Is it a " thump" pain or pressure?
Is it associated with food, after food or exercise?
Does anything relieve it?
for how long has it been going on?
Do you get any shortness of breath with it?
Perhaps you had better see your GP and answer the questions........but if not, then we look forward to your replies.l

I have a couple of pre existing medical issues, but they would not be associated with this.
It lasts for about a second. It is one big thump' and then it disappears. I used to get it as a little faint thump, but the past week or so it's been really big and I can actually see my chest move with the thump - if you get what I mean.
It's not pain. I would say more of a pressure.
There seems to be no set time as to when it will happen. I do suffer with anxiety quite badly (which doesn't help), so was wondering if this could be associated?
I've been getting the light flutter/thump for a good few months, but this recent bigger thump has only been for the past two weeks (ish).
As soon as it happens, I get a quick shortness of breath.
Hope that helps :)

It sounds a bit like palpatations, which can happen if you are stressed. For me it's like my heart is going to thump out of my chest or neck. It can last for a few minutes or a few hours and is horrible but not life threatening.
But... if you have any doubts then please do see your family doctor/GP for a quick check-up as none of us on here are actually really qualified to give medical advice :)
