Pre sale viewing checked item seemed ok.
Won three things I wanted to buy.
Got home and one of items has a repair. Very good repair , but restored anyway.
Oh well that's £200 down the pan.

Will chuck it back into next auction and take hit.

Less haste next time.

There's an outside chance you could have some comeback with the auction house......

I suspect its caveat emptor.....the auction house won't have listed it as "perfect"or "undamaged"

It was ceramics.
It's buyer beware.
Sometimes the auction house list condition other times they don't.
In this case they didn't mention restoration.

Could have been worse.
Internet buyer paid £1200 for a rare vase and it was listed with no mention of damage , but on close inspection you could see a very small chip.

Did pick up a nice Clarice Cliff coffee set from same auction house a few years back for £220 ... Yes I know amazing price and sold it on last year for ... Drum roll ... £1800 !
It's only a hobby , so you win some and take hit on others.
When it stops being fun , will find another hobby.

@TWR - Yes. I have a couple of sets myself.
Also Cousin Wesley.
The have crashed in price recently.
Check eBay.
They came in sets of 5. Later they released the Cousin Wesley pig.
However due to fakes these are hard to sell.
You have to weigh and measure to prove its not fake.

Picked up a nice Whitefriars Sunburst vase cheap.
Hope to sell that on via eBay for £50 profit.

The auction house should have listed it "AF" (As Found) meaning that it is not sold as being "perfect".

Guess I could return to auction house and complain.
Might phone them next week.
To be honest ...not too bothered. Just annoyed with myself for not being more carefully when inspecting item.
You win some and lose some.
Be no good doing this for a living I think.
Just a hobby , my normal source of stock is car boot sales.
Had some good finds in the past.

I think you SHOULD complain. If they are a reputable auction house, they will want to put right their oversight/mis-description. It might make them a bit more careful in future and save somebody less able to afford such a slip up from losing money.

And of course if you get your money back ... well you can buy an awful lot at boot sales for £200 :-)

When these pigs first came out Sir, we picked them up from Swinton Wilts, they came in 40ft Trailer loads, an awful lot of money then.

Today's they have a value today for collectors but there again it would be diminished by a large volume of them swamping the market.
