What time is close of business for banks in the UK (Nat West in particular)? And what time can a BACS payment go into a bank account (from when & until when on any one day) - if that makes sense?

BACS payments go in overnight (from just after midnight until about 7am) so if they're not there when you check in the morning they won't go in until the next working day at the earliest.

Stevie21 is absolutely right - unless they do a same day transfer (EFT or CHAPS payment). If the remitter requests one usually before 2:30 - 3:00pm the payment should arrive the same working day.
