"special" shoes
13 Answers
hi, i have various problems with my feet due to arthritis, one of which being a bent up toe that rubs on the top of shoes. I don't have the ability to put anything on my toe to prevent the rubbing. For the last few years i have worn only crocs because they have a high enough top that it doesn't rub, I REALLY REALLY need some proper shoes as the crocs are now causing some trouble themselves, Can anyone recommend shoes that have a really high top, or somewhere to get some specially made?

Maybe a soft material upper type thing like these which wouldn't rub against it?

I had some trainers from there and they were so comfy and the fact they have breatheable bits in were great for hot swollen feet. I wore mine into the ground, then my mum's.

Can't find a pic of any, my recent ones are from Primark, only £8. They are like cheaper versions of Sketchers.
Kind of like these but more substantial with a thicker strap - http ://w ww.s port sdir ect. com/ skec hers -bik ers- luxe -lad ies- shoe s-23 4062
I've tried those ones on and was really disappointed for Sketchers, just didn't feel comfy at all.

thanks for all you help (and searching!) unfortunately canvass just doesn't work - it's what made an ulcer on my toe originally unfortunately. Also, the mary-janes are rubbish on me too cause 1) i can't bend down to fasten anything and 2)one of my feet is swollen from 2 dvt's and hip/knee replacemnt and i don't think it'll ever go back down
bednobs, please go to see a podiatrist. I lost my big toe to osteomylitis and then had a lot of trouble because my 2nd toe rubbed on the top of my shoe and I got a skin infection and it caused so many problems. Make sure you get proper medical help. First step (no pun intended) see your Doc and get referred, or, see your local podiatrist at your nearest clinic. Podiatry are usually booked weeks and weeks in advance so the sooer you do it the better. Good luck.

Hi I too have arthritis and other foot problems. Only wear leather shoes as they grow to mould your own feet. Having had handmade shoes for me I told the prodiatrist that I was "too young" for the shoes supplied.Expensive Since then we have found a company www.widerfitshoes.co.uk. With the prodiatrist help I have found in their catalogue a shoe with a 2 1/4" heel. Have not worn heels for over 8 years. Good quality, use to do a/co's for a shoe manufacturing company. Please look at their site
