He divided and undermined the power of the nobility by decalring himself king at the Battle of Bosworth and thus made anyone who fought against him guilty of treason and found a legal excuse to execute rival claimants to the throne.

Instigated ruthless taxation, the more you earned the more you paid, even for nobles and restored the fortunes of the then bankrupt exchequer.

Created the Kings Council to keep the nobility in check.

And he subsidised shipbuilding to improve trade and strengthen the navy.
