Getting my first camera for passing the 11-plus.

and a personally happy childhood doesn't mean families and siblings are, or continue to be, functional, believe me.

Parental deaths usually guarantee kick-off time.

We are going to Wales for Xmas Tony, I go to my sisters grave, I'll take my mother to his grave, I'll stop in my car.
The first time we had chicken for Christmas( this was not long after WW2) it tasted absolutely wonderful.
Hanging around the kitchen when mum was baking cakes, my sister and I always had the bowl and 2 spoons to finish off the remaining cake mix, yum!
My mums rice pudding with the slightly burnt skin on...
My mums flapjack.
Potato picking for the local farmer for £1 an hour !
Helping my brother with his paper round after school and sharing the sweets afterwards :)
Fishing for sticklebacks in the summer holidays.
Getting smacked for drinking Sloan's Liniment. Running away from home when I was six. Unfortunately I took my five year old friend with me. I can still see the big ginger policeman who gave me a lecture when we were found late at night.

just dropped my wine glass, sibbo, on that - little wine in it and it missed my pc, the glass is still intact.
gness, if you'd been drinking Sloane's linament, a smack was the least of your troubles - I well remember my father's face when my mother accidentally dripped some down his nether regions...

..same sort of language he used when he tripped on the hoover hose on the stairs carrying a sleeping sloopy up to bed one christmas eve

I remember sitting in my cot and my brother trying to teach me to whistle.
Sitting on the back step podding peas.
Friday night was bath night in the tin bath in front of the fire.

Nothing, my childhood was crap. I can remember alot of bad things.
