Owdhammer, I can tell you a story about Zulu. I was selected to be part of Childrens Hour Young Critics, and in 1964 when it came out I had to go and see it and write a critique to read and talk about on the Home Service no less! Went with my mother to a cinema in east London to watch it. That is all I can remember, the the film was to me just lots of warriors jumping about.
Why were the critics so against it? Great story, beautiful , memorable music, accomplished performers, slick production. Or were we, the British public too thick to appreciate it?
triggerhappy, you and me like the same film with Brief Encounter. Recently did a free month trial with Nextflix and the only one on their many titles that I chose to watch again with this. Never cease to love it.
it was nicknamed The Glums, because of it's quite depressing storyline.
One should read the book mind you, it's a long quite hard read but certainly worth it.
