Good luck with giving up on your smoking. Mine will be to lose weight againnnnnnnnnnnn. I don't seem to have too much trouble losing it, it keeping it off I can't seem to do. I have a year to get off 2stone (2 and half would be better) and keep it off as my daughter is getting married in 2007 and I would like to wear something nice for her big day. I may try crocheting a blanket too to keep my hands out of the biccy tin.

Good luck with your attempt mullein. Can be a very hard habit to kick.

Minor point but just curious... do you think a different government (ie conservative) would have slowed the rise in the price of cigarettes?

Question Author
maggie...crocheting blankets is good i have made loads..i think its easier to do it as a whole rather than lots of small ones as you have to crochet them together if you have lots of small ones ..i would find that a nightmare..hope you manage to loose some weight i could do with loosing two stone also but its stuck like glue to me..and i hardly eat anything..and never pig out>>lazy gun..i dont think the ciggarettes would be cheaper under any government in this country..they make too much tax from them..you really cant blame those that smuggle them in to the country..

Thanks for the clarification mullein.

I gave up smoking once...... lasted for about 6 months then I was back on them again. Kicking the chemical addiction was fairly straightforward, it was the pyschological dependancy that was more difficult, especially when going out to pubs etc.

Also, I think it helps if you genuinely wish to give up... I only wanted to become a social smoker ;)

Hi mull This New year is my 2nd year non-smoker. Don't be to quick to say no to nicotine aids. Tried many times to give up but always started again. (Smoked for 40yrs) This time I used National Quit Line without it I don't think I would have given up. They gave me Nicotine replacement nasal spray really really good. hope this helps the very best of Luck and a happy new year

Good Luck mullein. Thankfully I've never smoked.

As for resolutions I always try to start the year on a positive note but by the third week in Jan the winter blues have really got a grip & all my good intentions go out the window.

Good for you mullein. I really hope you can hack it. Don't you think January is a really wretched month for trying to make any difficult resolutions - giving up smoking, going on a diet, cutting down on alcohol, etc?? It's cold, grey and miserable and to deny ourselves our "little comforts" at the lowest time of the year makes it doubly difficult. However, like everybody else, I shall be trying to shed some weight. But unlike most other people I shall not be taking out a gym subscription again. Over the last two years my infrequent visits have averaged out about 30 a visit. Complete waste of money so I shall try and walk more - that's about the only thing left which this government hasn't yet got round to taxing. (Unless we're about to see a Bucks Walking Congestion Tax !)
Good for you mullein. You are nearly there if you are expressing the wish to pack the fags in. Don't be too quick to dismiss the support you'd get from nicotine patches, aids etc, cos they can help get you through the physical addiction stuff while you crochet that blanket or make that quilt or take up lace making (that's how my Big Sister quit) or whatever in order to occupy your hands. Please do check out the Quit websites (quite a few of them) and talk to other folk who've done it. Just think, in a few weeks time you could be back in control :-)
One small hint - when you've thrown the fags away and ditched the ashtrays etc, spring clean the house, car, wherever you smoked before, make sure all your clothes are washed/dry cleaned and even try to get the curtains and soft furnishings cleaned to remove the smell of tobacco - this turned out to be the secret for my sister. Good luck.

I havn't really got any new resolutions only to find a permanent job. I have been temping for a while because I am waiting to move house to a different area.

I hope you pack up smoking. It is such an awful waste of money and you are risking your health too and your beauty. I know someone who got some tablets from the doctor, its a new idea and they really worked for him.

Good luck. If they banned it in public places it would help everybody. You can see I am a non smoker but banning it would help you by making you cut down. Work out how much you spend and put the money towards a good holiday.

Every year I make 3. The first is to improve my memory,............I forget the other 2

in 2003 I gave up smoking, having smoked for 15 yrs. Have not had a ciggy since and it is the best thing I have ever done. i wont lie, it is not easy but you feel so much better.

Well done spaced, I bet the food taste better too?
