Can Smoked Salmon Make You Ill

My husband had smoked salmon for lunch and after about an hour he was nauseous,had the runs and was shivering.

I'm not an expert (Apart from Biology degree too many years ago to admit) but I would think that's too quick to suspect food poisoning. It wouldn't have been digested that quickly. Fish is a common suspect for giving you stomach upsets, but if it was in date and been stored properly, it should have been fine. Maybe just a coincidence. Having said that, I ate smoked trout at lunch-time, then was sick last night, about 9 hours later!
Contaminated mayonnaise on the salmon served in the House of Lords caused a few upset tummies a year or so ago.
I'm sure I read somewhere that it takes 24 hours for food poisoning to take effect? Could just be coincidence and he has a stomach bug.

I bought it yesterday,Tescos finest,good till Dec 24th.Has been refrigerated since I bought it. Could be a bug but it seemed a bit coincidental.He was fine until lunchtime.
Coincidences do happen! The only way to check is for you or someone else to try a bit and see what happens. If you are affected too, maybe need to take it back to Tesco pronto? Hope he feels better soon. x

Food poisoning can start from 40 mins after eating - could it be this winter vomiting bug norovirus thats going about? It's highly contagious and has closed 34 hospital wards this last week alone

I had the winter vomiting bug 10 days ago. If the salmon was fresh and in date and as you say kept in the fridge, it's probably a bug.
I would not say within 1 hour of ingestion that food poisoning would incure, I would go with blue stones answer, how is he dooing now after a few hours since lunch.

Still being sick but feels a bit better.
I remember having a seafood pizza in Bude and was sick within 2 hours or so. I was fine by later in the day though. If it comes on quickly it usually passes quickly.
Anything you eat that can possibly be contaminated with toxins or microbes could make you ill. But one trusts that food purchased as ready-to-eat should not.
