As I have never done it before I am confused by the numbers of letters in the theme bit. Can anyone explain it to me before I go mad

I haven't looked at this quiz in depth but I think I've got the answers for a few of them!

For question two:

The clue is "inside a building next to Sarah's husband"

The letters are

----ORS -----ENT ---AHA-

The answers are

INDOORS ADJACENT ABRAHAM

inside a building (INDOORS) next to (ADJACENT) Sarah's husband (ABRAHAM)

Answers for number 4

KNIGHTED REDBREAST LONGSHOREMAN

Partial answer for number 8

Sorry I've misled you. I can do the clues (well not all of them but done lots) what I couldnt see but I think I have now is the bit in the intro about this years theme (2,3,4,2 etc)

I'm doing the same Christmas puzzle and I have to say I can't make any sense whatsoever of the comments about a "theme" or the numbers. I have most of the answers for page one but without any way of checking, I'm losing interest.

It's a pity because I've done this puzzle for several years now and it's always been fun. It's just getting too complicated and cryptic although I got full marks in last years puzzle!.

the clues are bad enogh but it is the so called hint that has me stumped.

If the first column is words (2,3,4,2,3,8,2,6,4,6)

then I have ti ek? ?uoy sa eci ?e?f?tn? ?c lemeht bowl umpire

and apart from last two words it makes no sense to me

in column 2 I can make no words and have about 5 words in column 3

Far from the theme being a help it is an hindrance. I thought as I hadnt done it before it was me but you have made me feel better

I have got answers for 98 of the 120 so if anyone thinks I am asking too many I am trying - honestly

I do this quiz most years ...but I agree the clues for the starting letters is confusing. ...but it seems to me that most of the words from the initial letters ..although not all of them read ok backwards rather than forwards. It does say something about taking Newbolts theme into account so as the poem seems to have a cricketing theme could that just be the last words in the columns ?

Does anyone know what the words Vitai Lampada actually mean ?
