This is just a silly theoretical question....
But saying its exactly Earth like and we are going to colonise it(yes we can make it but no fuel on board to get back)

And we can take say....a few 1000 people. What else would we need to bring to get started on a new planet? I'm assuming there will be edible stuff there so what technology, infrastructure would we bring o board to give us the best start possible?(i know theres a lot of ifs and buts, but just use your imaginantion giant spaceship, 1 way trip, what do we need?)

'I'm assuming there will be edible stuff'

? what if there isn't I was serious about the pigs and obviously some more livestock.

And I repeat we will basically be starting again as far as infrastructure goes.

Bazile & Naomi24. May I point out my first answer which was, as I thought, a useful reply.
"We could manage without them but, a few knives and axes would give us a head start. The survival training would be the main thing. You'd have plenty of time on the ship to learn this.
Old crafts like bowmaker, fletcher, thatcher, wheelwright, potter etc, etc. would be some of the most valuable skills.
Unless, of course, you want to make another 21st century Earth. "
Graham, I didn't suggest that there were no sensible answers - simply that a few more might be nice.
If the planet has no edible stuff there we ought not be going. Terraform it first using robots or some similar tech. Anyway if there is no edible stuff there any livestock brought alone isn't going to survive long.

Sigh....I kinda despair at this site nowadays. yes it is a silly question but I hoped it would stir at least some debate on what would be most important for us to take with us to start afresh. Thank you to all who at least offered a sensible answer and to the rest....Have you not got anything better to do with your sad pathetic lives except troll other peoples posts?
I could not agree more Shermintor. I would not say it was a silly Question, people once said that they would NEVER get to the Moon /Mars.
With the Science & Technology the Scientists have today, they would be in a position to know what the climate is like out there, from this information they would know if the planet has water, & if so can it be used to survive, this is one area that survival can be achieved, regards the return, I do not think that would happen until a return can be met.
We are still a million miles away from landing men on Mars TWR (Actually a minimum of 33.9 million miles away)

When I post a question sherminator, I like to hang around and give some input. What did you mean by infrastructure ?

As Grahan said, knives, axes and to that add picks and shovels.
First you need food and a roof over your head and clothes to keep you warm. A way to make fire of course, but you would have that and then, on a personal note, I can't manage without electricity so the next thing to do is to find a way to make that.
A generator produces Elec Start, take it from there.
lol
Is that funny?
The post @ 15:49 expresses a degree of interlect which even surprises me, especially the last part, bravo!
mmmmm ;0)

or maybe :0(

not sure lol.

Hissy fit time.

Why can't posters answer in a light hearted manner; it's hardly trollng, nor is it indicative of a sad pathetic life.
Take all the decision makers...then I can go and live my life as nature intended and maybe get a normal amount of vitamin D for once.
