Computer For A Technophobe
12 Answers
I have bought OH a laptop for Christmas. As he is not very good on computers, I have decided to set it up ready. As it has Windows 8, I played around on it this morning so I can help him with the basic queries. I've downloaded Norton and set the internet properties. I've set him up with an e-mail address, youtube Id and saved things like facebook under favorites to make it easy for him while he finds his way around the web.
As I've said, he's not great with technology, so my patience will be tested over the Christmas week. Is there anything else I can do to make mine and his life easier? Obviously he can change the passwords once he figures out how!

Cheers TWR, will pop my head into WHSmiths on the way to work this afternoon.
Laptop came with McAfee, but decided Norton is easier to use to perform quick scans etc.
D97x7 - he would probably use AB to post topics such as 'Where are my car keys', so yes, a great idea. It'll stop him ringing me up at work, lol

netibiza - top right hand corner on the screen. I have heard that many people have not got on with Windows 8.
Thanks for all your answers. Didn't get round to shopping for PC for Dummies as it was raining, so I will look tomorrow. I will set OH a small challenge each day, for example, send me an e-mail, then send me an e-mail with an attachment, let him learn that way. Small steps that are simple to most of us, but hopefully grow his confidence.
