Generally speaking, internet and postal accounts pay slightly better rates. Northern Rock's tracker online pays 4.06% gross, which is 3.25% net and ING Direct pay 4.3% gross (can't remember precisely what this is net). You're unlikely to find rates higher than those at the moment for ordinary savings accounts. If you haven't done so already, open up an ISA (mini cash) savings account, where your interest will accrue tax-free. Many building societies are paying around 4.10% to 4.20% (tax free) on their ISAs. Have a look at sites such as savings.co.uk and moneyfacts.co.uk for more info.
also check moneysavingexpert.com - lots of excellent consumer tips and he recently did an artcile on this very topic.
