Do they believe it or do they also think it is nonsense?

I image they would also be divided.

do they still exist? I thought they were an extinct civilisation like the aztecs, incas etc.

shame really, they were always associated with advanced knowledge of science and astromony. From now on they are a bit of a joke.
Nobody - but NOBODY - can foretell the future.
I knew you were going to say that, starbuckone!
well, the "Mayans" still exist the same way the "Romans" do: the people are still around but the empire and its priests and leaders have long since faded. But modern Mexico is mainly Christian. Some bits of pre-Christian death cults still survive, however, mixed in with Catholicism.

But it's not the end of the world. It's just the end of one of the old Mayan calendars. They'd just go on to a new calendar, the same as I will in 10 days' time.
Why should they be a bit of a joke booldawg. It is other people who have put their own interpretation on the Mayan calendar. Doubt if whoever thought of the calendar in the first place had any idea of what would happen in the future. They would probably be the first to say "No, No, I didn't mean that at all!"
According to the Mayans, we still have another hour and a half to live. They believe the world will cease to exist at 11:11
The prediction is a joke.
Mind you, I'm not doing any housework until tomorrow....just in case
Naughty AlwaysConfused implying you knew what was going to happen. You know perfectly well you are pretending to be a seer. Have you been watching "The Mentalist"?
Did they have clocks in those days? And 11.11 in which country?
that won't be 11.11 our time, though, the Mayans didn't know about GMT.

A Mayan woman was interviewed on TV this morning. She said that of course the world wasn't going to end. But she was pleased that the story had resulted in many more tourists coming to see the Mayan sites in her part of the country, a great help for the local economy.
