I'm around 8 weeks pregnant with my first and struggling to eat, which is very unlike me! I think I fancy the food but when I start to eat it I feel very sick and can't continue eating. The only things I can really stomach are salt and vinegar crisps, cheese and plain bread. Will this harm baby if I'm not getting the calories in?

i would not think so

your body knows what it is doing in regard to the welfare of the baby .. and if it needs different foods, it will activate the appropriate needs in your brain.

congratulations.

thank you excelsior, and thanks for the reassurance! :)
A doctor once told me"always listen to your body and you won't go far wrong". Since then I have always followed his advice...it works.
as long as you are not getting dehydrated, babies are parasites, and will be feeding off all your body's store of vitamins/minerals etc, so no need to worry
Eat little and often and whatever you fancy....oh and congratulations!
Agree with all previous answers. Gingernut biscuits are very good for sickness though.
Dont worry about trying to eat normal sized meals, just eat little and often.

thank you all for the reassurance,I will continue as I'm doing :)
Congrats...

I was sick the whole pregnancy with my daughter. I lost quite a bit of weight but still had a healthy baby.
im 17 weeks and was the same at start. Would fancy something, get full up or go off it half way through, then 10 mins later be hungry again. Your baby will still get all it needs just make sure you are taking your vitamins. And believe me you will get your apetite back.x

thank you- have had 2 better days and managed to eat nearly a whole xmas dinner today, which is great! can't wait to get my appetite back fully!!
Congratulations, don't worry about what you eat as long as you can manage something healthy, I couldn't bear to smell cooked food especially chicken on those rotissieries, always made me feel ill. It will pass, a little of what you fancy can't harm you, just as long as you drink plenty of water or milk.
As you are pregnant, please take the advice from your doctor about what should eat and follow it because insufficient diet may cause diabetes to the child.
