Most mornings (at around 2am) they post the same spam reply flogging their Jordans, Nikes etc in around 20 threads in the space of a minute. Must be automated. I'm not sure why they bother. Maybe they get paid per post for spamming websites across the world

It's the same spammer. Every night a new computer-generated username is created and a post appears advertising Nike trainers, etc, together with a link which appears to go to a Chinese site.

As I'm one of the most nocturnal moderators, I zap that spammer several times per week (but with Chuck, and others, sometimes beating me to it!)

Presumably, Chris, the autospammer has to set up a new email address and AB account each night.

i have asked the ED if there us some way they can be blocked before they flood all the threads

Blocking someone from a site relies on blocking their email address and also their IP address - which normally is exclusive to your PC -there is not much admin can do if the spammer uses an IP blocker and throw away email addy's. I can never understand WHY the spammers do it as they are unlikely to get any business that way, they must rely on getting paid per click
