Whether we agree or don't.... people who receive these honours are, apparently. nominated..... putting aside celebrities... how many nominations does it take for a 'normal' person have their name considered?
Even before the oficial nomination system came into place, a single (unofficial) nomination was all that was needed.
Back in the late 1980s (when there was no 'official' way of making a nomination) I wrote, on behalf of a committee, suggesting a name to our local MP. The person we suggested received the MBE.
it gets sillier and sillier each time, I stopped believing in it when Mick Jagger and Tom Jones became sirs and John Prescott became a Lord.
doesnt interest me anymore.
Seeing as this year the Olympics seems to be dominating the honours list, I hope some of those volunteers who worked tirelessly for nothing get recognised.
