No, Imps are (were) not the same as Fishermen's Friends. In 1950s Imps came in little square tins with lids you had to prise off with a coin. The little very strong liquorish + other ingredient? squares were about a quarter the size of your little finger nail - and goodness me, they were SO potent, they blew your head off! My old Grandad loved them but perhaps they were to take the taste of his baccy away as he rolled his own cigarettes and Grandma didn't approve ;) Fishermen's Friends still are sold in a packet and are khaki coloured hard lozenges with their distinctive taste, they have been around for years too and my Mum used to limit us to one or two as they contained Chloroform (I think?) and they made you feel sleepy .......... :))
