On the theme of 'doing things the hard way', I found that the sound was breaking up on an audio stream earlier this week. I tried another site (same problem). I checked my download speed (OK). I scanned for malware. I rebooted my computer. I disconnected and reconnected my router. (Still no improvement). It was only then that I noticed that my speakers weren't properly plugged in!
