I want to be more up to date in 2013.

I read and watch the news - that's OK ,but unless I catch a post from you all, I have little idea about popular culture or what's gone viral!

How can I get with it and not have to rely for example, on my 75 year old friend suggesting I google Gangnam Style when I hadn't heard of it in October? :-)

^^^ You should do you'd be good at it.
I look at this most days to see what the celebs are up to.

use google reader and subscribe to feeds from sites of your choice (other feed readers are available)
read the daily mail online....that's where all the crap...er, sorry, culture is. it'll certainly broaden your horizons, anyway (p.s. and don't forget to read the comments at the end of the articles for more gems). good luck (to your eyeballs!) x
Trending is unique to each Tweeter though cazzz, mine is different to yours, I have Ed Sheeran but no Phil Taylor. They base it on who you follow.

Well I've been messing around on Twitter for a couple of hours and I think I've finally got it!! I'm following local news, national news and a few of my interests plus "What's Trending". I'm less interested in celeb news, more interested in what's amusing people, what's gone viral and what's new in our world.

Question.... how do I reject spammers who want to follow me?

I'm annonymous and only be live an hour yet i have an undesirable follower already!
that's the downside of twitter....remain anonymous and read the daily mail. that way, you don't actually have to speak to other people. simples.
I like living in a world which is all soft round the edges (no hard news). I don't want to know what's going on. It's far nicer to be ignorant.

Its OK I've blocked the spammer now.
