How Easy Is It To ...

Set up a new telly?
I've got an old big backed monster-with a forest of leads at the back. If any of them came out,I wouldn't know what was what. Are new TVs more straightforward....for a techno-phobe like me?

Yes, we had one of the biggies - the new one just plugs in, then you tune it accordingly to the instructions in the manual.

I've never quite got the hang of tuning, so there's obviously still a bit of foolproofing to be done. Why can't they just tune themselves in once you've plugged them in? I can plug things in ok...

As I recall, we didn't need to do a lot of it, the thing just said "to tune press blue button" or similar....

Every time we upgrade or have a new bit I kit installed I take digital photos of all the connection. So far it's been a foolproof method.

If you have cable or satelite it should automatically tune itself, if not it not too hard - If it hasn't been delivered yet might the nice delivery person set it up for you? Of course this won't work if it's delivered by FedX or the like or you already have it - but I'm sure there would be a website or something on Youtube if you got stuck (which I doubt)

It depends what you plug into it.

If you use nothing else but the TV then there will be just a power cable and an ariel cable, simple.

Most people however, tend to have such things as DVD players, satellite/cable boxes, games consoles, surround sound systems etc and the more of these you have, the more of a nightmare it is wiring and connecting them all up correctly!

@cheekychops (love the name ;-) )...it will be just me and the telly-so it sounds like it will be simple enough.

Now I just have to wade through all the tv's available,and decide on one.

Panasonic or Sony. Forget the rest!
Beware though that as they are generally so thin these days, sound can be compromised especiall in the bass. You might need to budget for a sound bar or cinema system.
