Advisable?
Good morning all, my renault clio 1.5dci is due its timing belt change , so i went to my renault dealer and asked for it to be booked in this next week.
The following is what (after discussion with service dept) is going to be replaced
Timing belt
water pump
2 x pulleys (1 was the tensioner idler, ive forgotton the other? (anybody?)
The auxillary belt
coolant fluid
all parts above fitted inc 1 yr guarentee for £485 all in (main renault dealer)
my question to you guys is, the only part that im querying is, should or would you change the crankshaft pulley? renault told me that the crankshaft pulley was not a scheduled service maintenance part, but i read on the internet forums that sometimes the bolt should be renewed when doing the above job.
why wouldnt the pulley be replaced? by the way if i wanted to have the crankshaft pulley replaced with a new one it would be an additional £60 so that would take it to £545. what do you guys think please?

I was wondering, if they change 2 pulleys but not the crankshaft pulley, why not? does this pulley have no bearings like the others? The only reason i wanted to go with renault was because if anything should go wrong, they used their renault parts and labour, and if all was replaced, they couldnt say something like...ah well you see it was the crankshaft pulley what was the problem, so not our fault etc.

good advice, would also suggest they use Renault parts. If your having trouble finding a garage have a look here.

Jesyca, if you ask any garage to use the Orig parts, they will, & they WILL NOT rip you off, do not use K.F. otherwise by the time they finish you will need a new engine lol lol, a family run garage do the job right as they will be looking for further business, With respect, person's do not need to use the main dealers for repairs as they are / will be warranted on parts used, get quotes elsewhere Jes & save yourself money.
Hi Jes, just back, to do this job £300 should cover it, that would include what you have stated & excluding the lower pulley, but I would ask them to check this if it makes you feel better, you go to the BIG garages ( Dealers) you WILL pay big costs, the heating, lighting, staff, which is ok, but like us all we are all trying to save money, the job should take approx half a day at the most, keep hold of paper work in case of problems & warranties. also quotes BEFORE the job is started, how many miles has the car done? the belt should be changed around 60000 at the latest.
Hi
the car has done 67000 miles, the handbook stated 5 years or 72000, but as its a 54 plate, its past the time stated but not the miles , so deffo going to get it done, im ringing the independant renault specialist in the morning to ask for a quote. just for info the main renault garage said 5 hours labour but car would be there 8 till 5 and would ring if earlier. 300 would be a good saving over the main dealer!

They will give that time just to clear themselves in case of problems Jesyca, take any car to the main dealership & you will pay high prices, as said, if you want the original parts fitted to your car ask the garage supervisor etc, with the age of your car Euro Parts are the firm to deal with. whilst the car is getting done, ask them to check the coolant hoses as a precaution.
