Is Windows 8 Good? Is It Better Than Windows 7?

I find it a little confusing. OH is doing really well with it, although he's never had a computer before, so didn't know any different!

I've installed it in a partition on my Windows 7 machine. I like it, I would do a full install if Acer would make the driver for my tv card.

You could always 'try before you buy'

The ISO you could install within your existing windows system as a virtual Windows 8 system, assuming you have decent memory, Hard Disk space and processor speed. I usually try this within an Oracle VirtualBox virtual package which is free to download from: http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/virtualization/virtualbox/overview/index.html

If you have not used a virtualbox environment before its as simple as:
Install VirtualBox, run virtualbox, select new to create new operating system, select operating system as Windows 8, set the size of virtual disk, memory etc. then associate the downloaded Windows 8 eval ISO to the virtual DVD drive within the new virtualbox win 8 system and then start up the new Windows 8 environment to invoke the downloaded ISO Win 8 installation.

As the installation is virtual and basically only gets written a local file, all your current system / files will remain untouched and continue to function normal.

It came with my new laptop, and so far I don't like the layout, but then, 7 was a new experience too, and so was Vista and XP. '98 was the easiest to grasp for me.

It's very puzzling to use if you are used to Windows 7, I've had to buy a book on it because the online manual for this computer was hopeless. You are presented with a starting screen with no icons on it; there's no clue how to find tools or a list of programs or even the standard icon for turning the device on to shut down or restart !Once you crack the code for these, life with it is easy.

This is not quite true.

When you shut down Windows 8 it does not actually shut down, but goes into a deep hibernation.

When you turn it back on again all it is doing is coming out of that hibernation.

So it is not booting quicker from "cold" but booting quicker from its hibernation.

Definitely, yes. Windows 8 is better compared to Windows 7 in every aspect. However, it seems to be loosing the interest of the people. I've been using it since first CS version. I have never looked back. I often hit some the keyboard shortcuts I learn in the process.
My overall experience is pleasant. There is a steep learning curve ahead if you're coming from XP landscape. Windows7 users will find some difference in the UI and other part. As they say, beauty is skin deep. Also, Windows 8 seems to be cheaper compared to other OS. You should definitely give it a spin
