you can turn off your fridge/freezer for up to 12 hours each day, don't worry your food wont defrost. Just remember to switch it back on. It's worth investing in a timer switch, that way you don't have to worry, the time switch will do the job for you.

Can't imagine the fridge/freezer would use up a lot of electricity anyway. It would probably cost more to cool it down again each time it was switched on again.
