How Do You Choose What To Cook In The Evening?
39 Answers
Are you super-organised and plan your weeks meals in advance?
Do you go shopping and just pick 6/7 meals for the week?
Do you wake up in the morning and decide then?
Or are you running around the kitchen at 5pm like a headless chicken trying to scramble a meal together??

Now, on payday, I get enough from the butchers to last for four weeks (usually 4 Sunday roasts big enough for leftovers, 1lb mince, stewing steak, 2 pork chops, and whatever looks good in the butchers window) and from the supermarket I get everything else. I just get bread and milk in a daily basis as needed. I decide on what to have that night when I get home from work at 2pm (I start very early in the morning), usually utilising anything that needs using up! On Sunday we had roast beef, so last night I bought a jar of curry sauce and made beef curry yesterday (which we are having tonight) and tomorrow we are having delicious pork spare ribs (which I've marinated tonight's they tast much better that way). If we have chicken on Sundays, then in Monday we might have chicken pie, or chicken goujons. We usually have fish in one form or another on Friday, and a takeaway on Saturday. So Wednesday and Thursday will be something like lasagne, sausage and mash, stir fry, casserole etc.

I do a combination of all 3.
Mr BM often changes his plans last minute (actually, they are not changes, they are stuff he has forgotten to tell me about), so whilst I might plan we'll have certain meals normally based around my work, it generally all goes to pot.
So whilst I'll buy stuff for things I am planning to cook, it doesn't always work out that way. Plus I don't do 9-5 and it can change at short notice.
Then there are days when I expected to be away, but it gets pulled so I am here all day kicking my heels. Thus my favourite place to be at this time of year is in the kitchen.
I don't really do "running" or "headless chicken". I'm more of a "sod it, I'll have a glass of wine and think about it" girl at which point I will throw something together from what I have or we'll end up eating out. Although at any one time, I reckon I have enough combinations of food to come up with about 10 different meals quite quickly.
What makes me die laughing is that Mr BM called me a lazy Lady today. Knob.

I am a super organised sort - I write a list for meals, lunch boxes, stuff that's running low and stick to it (then I divide it between the stuff I get from Asdq and Aldi). That way we always have what we need (so I don't have to pay extra at the village shop or get the car out to go to town) and there is minimal waste. With so many of us it's difficult to just throw a meal together from what might be in the cupboards/fridge.
I tend to wing it on a day to day basis, often decide as i'm walking round the mini supermarket and usually have a look what's in the bargain bin or what offers are on though I don't tend to make anything too exciting as it's just me.
I'll sometimes make something like a spag bol so I have enough for two nights.
I don't always have much of an appetite, especially at the moment, and am too tired to do much cooking when I get home so I eat a lot of soup and sandwiches/wraps.

I decide what we'll have Monday to Thursday, make a short list and order online, then the rest of the week it's just what we fancy , since the kids (well adult kids) fend for themselves, (carry outs mainly for them). seem to spend more money on the trips to tesco for the three days than for the rest of the week.
