We are shared lives carers and our first permanent placement is going to arrive soon.I have spoken to so many tax credits advisors who all tell me different info i am confused with it all.I need to know how much of shared lives money is taken in to account for tax credits purposes.I am told one thing i ring up again to confirm this and am told something different. Is there another number to ring or an address to write to for attention of someone who knows correct info?

I would suggest giving TaxAid a call on 0345 120 3779, and take it from there.

Thank you 1 eyed Jack closed now but will ring friday.
Do ring Taxaid, but I think it is likely that the money will be taken into account if it is taxable. I have no idea whether this will be the case but you need to find it out anyway because if it is taxable you will have to account for it to HMRC.
i would guess that it's not a "payment" as such but rather an allowance to defray the costs of having someone else live with you (ie extra heating, food, electricity, water and so on)
My initial take was not whether the income was to be taken into account for means testing, but rather whether the hours undertaken comprised "qualifying remunerative work". I have not had a chance to check it out and will not before 31 Jan, but tax aid will be well familiar with the scenario I think.
