Suggestions For Birthday Meal For In-Laws?

Its my father-in-laws birthday next week and ive offered to cook a meal for everybody, so there will be 6 of us. Dont want to spend all afternoon/eve in kitchen so ideas for tasty ,stress free starters, mains and pud. Maybe a main that can just all be thrown together and left ie slow cooker recipe?

Dont want to do the same old stuff. I usually do a baked risotto which is really lovely but dont want to do that again.

Any ideas greatly received! x

Difficult to suggest without a bit more info on likes/dislikes

a good homemade soup can be done in advance, or a platter of different smoked fish served up with horseradish and gooseberry sauces is easy

Decent casserole or a pot roast in the slow cooker, trifle for a pud and a cheeseboard?
