I've just had an E-mail from Dr Keith Marshall who is an Anthony Powell expert and secretary of the Anthony Powell Sociey and he doesn't know this quote !

auntiebertie I hope you can find this quote in a big book of quotes in a bookshop, especially at the busy time of Christmas !

The only other question I'm unsure on is the Plato quote but a friend thinks the answer is " Every Man is a FOOL when he is in love " . Have you got this answer too carolegif and auntiebertie ?

Hi - yes I did stand in a bookshop and went through every single quote book [including unwrapping a huge one done up on cellophane!] and it didn't exist. Guess this is one way of the Daily Mail not paying out on those diamond bracelets eh!!!!

I agrree with a previous correspondant. I have been a reader with Mail for over 20 years. and have entered hundreds of competitions with them over years. From collecting coupons to phone ins and all the various scratch cards. Never ever won even a T shirt. A long time ago I realized they dont give these prizes from Luxury Villas to Videos and CDS
