ok simple question before i get knocked off from the internet again. If my room mates brought cats into our rental townhome after signing the lease that there would be a pet deposit before bringing the cats in and they didn't pay the deposit what can i do. they told me they did in may when they brought them in and i found out in late november that they didn't and come foward and tell someone that they have brought the cats into the townhome. they have destroyed the carpets, it smells and the cats take their bathroom duties on the floor in front of my bedroom door which is on the basement floor. ALL CONCRETE. so there is amonia and crap built up down there.
my question: since they already "voided" the lease is there anything I can do? What should I do? anything can help right now. I have been told i can termenate my name on the lease and not pay the rest of the period on the lease since they already broke it. is that true? anything will help. thanks.
Not 100% sure, but I thought these type of short-term leases made each of the tenants (room-mates) jointly and severally liable for breaches of the lease. So I think the liability falls equally on all tenants.
Intriguing that cats arrived in May but you didn't find out until November. I guess you don't live there then, even though you are a tenant.
