Interesting results

particularly the widespread concern over immigration irrespective of local experience;
/Immigration was regarded as the most divisive issue for 19% of people in north-east England and 20% in Wales – where the 2011 census shows one in 20 people were born abroad – and for 20% of Londoners, where immigrants make up one in three of the population./

However, it is good to see British tolerance and common sense prevail;

/While one in four thinks being born here is important to being British, two-thirds of people believe the welfare state should be open to those born abroad who have contributed to society and play by the rules./
I'd be interested to know if people were asked open questions or whether they were asked to tick things off a list. I suspect the latter, otherwise how else to explain Tesco getting on there (!) The top three is no great surprise and on a personal level I'd add the BBC. It ought to make us proud also as it's probably one of the most recognisable and respected instituitions among people abroad who've never been to Britain.
Zehul, surely if there are more immigrants then in the survey they would probably not see it as a problem.

Unless of course the poll was for british citizens (which I very much doubt)

Statistics can be twisted to what ever the agenda, so no surprise coming from the Guardian. Those pesky Northerners what do they know, they dont have 'coffee shops in Islington' to sit and 'chatter'
^^

YMB

I would like to reply but your post is unintelligible.
if I were British I'd put the BBC ahead of Team GB, which I think is a temporary phenomenon. I don't know that the royal family and the army would make me "proud" exactly, either.
If I believed the BBC were neutral then I too would put it up there.
OK I've taken a few wild guesses at what ymb might be going on about LOL

/surely if there are more immigrants then in the survey they would probably not see it as a problem.

The poll interviewed British residents- surely the most valid and representative sample to gauge the country.
Re: immigrants. Polls that segment them out tend to find that 1st Gen immigrants are more sensitive to and therefore more anti further immigration than others.

/ no surprise coming from the Guardian. Those pesky Northerners what do they know/

Anything more than a superficial look at the survey reveals it was conducted by MORI/IPSO for the British Future Think Tank which is based in London.
Team GB for time, certainly not the NHS, parts of it are a disgrace.
