Iain Duncan Smith , Works and Pensions Sec.on?
Quoted yesterday as saying " that most people should ,and even want to work beyond the age of 65."
Is this really the findings of one of our elected MPs
His explanation was that as people are living longer, we would be happy to spend this time working.
I find it hard to believe that this man has any grasp at all of what real work involves.
I understand that many people do already choose to work longer for a variety of reasons, and that many have no choice other than to do so.
But cannot believe that most people would want to do so.
Most people must be very weird then. I got sick of the rat race and getting imposed on quite some time ago. If I had the money I'd be off doing what I enjoyed instead. But sufficient financial security is not yet in place. IMO I've put in more than enough years of contributing to society, High time those who have not and yet are capable of, doing their turn.
Oh sure the one thing one wants a longer life for is to work longer until one drops supporting those that do not. That makes perfect sense.
I see nothing wrong at all if some people want to carry on working till they drop dead, if they enjoy their job then good luck to them,. On the other hand some men and women work in industries that are really hard slog, physically and mentally and by the time they reach retirement age are only too happy to give it all up.
While you're working the system will squeeze money out of you, and if you're not drawing a pension the government will rub it's hands over the saving to give the money to their already fat wages! And yes some people do like their work and would stay but what of those where it's a physically demanding job more suited to younger people, I can't think why anyone would want to remain in a job that's unhealthy for them. It doesn't matter what we want anyways, the government will get their bit!
Many people of retirement age and those approaching it wish that they had been able to continue working... //
I disagree. Many people who like doing things other than constantly going to work for someone else would like to retire earlier if they could afford to do so.
