Hello I signed up online with a chemist to get my repeat prescriptions send through the post to me but I am having nothing but problems with my doctor's surgery.
I am 80 years old and when I need a repeat prescription I have to go to my doctor's surgery and order a repeat prescription which is quite a walk from my house, then wait 2 days and go to the chemist's in town to pick it up and sometimes it is not ready so I have to walk to town again to collect it, so I thought getting it through a online would be easier for me as I have had a slight stroke and find it hard to walk far.
The chemist told me all they had to do after I sent them one of my repeat prescriptions they would contact my doctor's surgery and they would fax a prescription back to them and then they would sent me my pills, but my doctor's surgery is refusing to send them my prescription.
Can they do this?

I agree with you that the repeat prescription situation is a shambles. Where I am we have had the same trouble. Each blames the other for the bungling.
Good luck.
I agree...a total shambles.......I know from past posts that other Health Systems are inferior to the U.K NHS, but if it helps, can I please tell you what happens in Spain.

One is issued with a type of credit card which holds all your medication and is updated on an annual basis. You than go to any chemist in Spain, your card is swiped in a machine and your tablets dispensed for one month.

Works well.
My mother had this system when she lived in the country. She had to go to the doctor`s, get the prescription then it was faxed to a town 10 miles away and took 48 hours etc. It doesn`t have to be like that. Now she lives near me and she collects 6 months' prescriptions, files them all in one go (the real ones, not faxes or anthing) with the local Boots and collects the tablets once a month when she needs them. They`ll even deliver if she would like.
My other half has a plastic card which he takes to the pharmacy once a month where his prescription medication is ready and waiting for him, no contact with the surgery at all and no faffing around with prescriptions. Once a year he has a medication review with his gp.
I put in a prescription request with the surgery and get three months worth of medication on one paper prescription 48 hours later. I take this to the pharmacy and am given three months mediation.
JG, there are various ways of making this a lot easier for yourself. Go and see the surgery and explain your difficulties, I'm sure they will sort it out for you.
