I've recently been asked to sponsor two friends raising money for separate charities and in each case the person says they have to raise £5000 to be accepted on the challenge. One is aiming to climb M. Kilimanjaro and the other is desert trekking. To raise £5000 in itself is admirable and presumably they will continue to raise money until the feat is completed.
In addition to this initial £5000 will they have to supply even more cash to pay all the travel expenses etc that are obviously going to be required?
It depends on the charity - some say that part of your initial fundraising will be spent on the expenses of getting you to the location, etc. The initial amount is to prove that they have a commitment to the event, and that they have the support they claim to have. My friend did a walk to the foothills of Everest a couple of years ago, the same applied.
