Mouldy tiles in bathroom
6 Answers
Can anyone tell me what is the most effective way of getting rid of the black mould on bathroom tiles around the bath/shower. Is there anyway to keep the mould from coming back. I think it could be something to do with the wall being an outside wall therefore it is always cold. Any ideas?

The first thing is to keep the room as well ventilated as you dare in this weather because it always gets worse in winter when the moisture doesn't dry quickly. . There are various mould preventing sprays on the market which will help. Also washing down with a dilute bleach solution will help, but be sure to wear protective gloves. Although it's a pain, probably wiping down the tiles after each use with one of these new microfibre cloths will also help prevent the problem by no leaving surplus moisture lying around. I don't know what heating you have in your bathroom but if it's inadequate, a wall fitted hot air blower might help to reduce the condensation which will be adding to the problem.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated. We have a radiator on the wall opposite the affected tiles and we usually keep the window open after use and throughout most of the day. Wiping down after each would be fine apart from the fact there are 4 people that constantly use the shower and 2 of them would forget, but I suppose anything is better than nothing.
I used to have this problem in a shower, and I found that Domestos mould & mildew remover works great, not only on the tile grout but also the silicone sealant. It comes in a green spray type container, you can get it in every store I have been to. It is pretty effortless - just right a for a guy like me!!
