Hi, I spilt over half a litre of engine oil in the boot of my car. The bottle fell over and the contents poured out!!

Anyone have any ideas how to remove it?

It won't do any harm and will stop it rusting! Mop up with kitchen roll, clean with detergent and shampoo the carpet.
Cover it well with washing up powder and leave over night, there is nothing better for soaking up oil .... it also works perfectly on concrete but if an old dried stain then dampen before leaving.
The suggested solutions are good advice but the difficulty may be with any separate noise damping material such as felt or foam that may have taken up oil. If it is truly separate from the carpet then, to deal with the worst (with the carpet away) use old rags, paper, etc. placed under it, while (outside the boot is best) something squeezes out the oil by pressure on the felt/foam. After that use fresh soak-up material on top and bottom while everything is back in the car (use the boot as usual) and check from time to time whether it needs replacing.
