Is Anyone Elses Sky Tv Not Working?

Our tv has not worked since yesterday afternoon, we use Sky for our TV - I rang Sky then, as no signal appeared to be coming through, and was told it wasn't functioning because it was snowing, and once it stopped, the tv would work again. But it doesn't - I rang again this morning and told them the snow had stopped, and it had not snowed overnight, but it still wasn't working. i was told that it was probably because there was still snow in the air, so the signal could not get through! I've had a look at the dish which is totally snow-free, so I suppose that we will just have to wait for the weather to improve, unless any of you clever ABers know any way to get round this problem?

Have you done the box reboot thing? I lost my signal yesterday when the snow was thick and didn't get it back once the snow had gone over so I rebooted and it worked fine again.
A few people have moaned about it on facebook.
forgive me, but that is a rediculous response from them .. 'snow in the air'?

if that were the case, then everyones' sky tv would be off-line
Had no trouble at all, touch wood, I too would try rebooting as woofgang suggests and if that doesn't work get on to Sky and give them some verbals, after all they charge enough for their service.
Lost ours as well but came back after we cleared the dish

I've tried re-booting several times, and checked all the cables etc. I'm not going to get on to Sky again, the advisor really couldn't help much, (I'm also fed up with having to hang on for goodness knows how long until they answer) and they are rebating me 5 days worth for the inconvenience. Just have to keep trying, I suppose. Thanks for your answers.
Also check the LNB unit on your dish to see if the cables are still connected ok and that the LNB has not come loose in the bad weather.

Perhaps the weight of snow has tilted the dish down a bit, if it isn't secured tightly enough.

OH looked at the aerial this morning, and all cables etc seem to still be connected, so I guess that it's just not getting a signal - we still have thick cloud cover here, and it's snowing again! (thank goodness the snooker final is today - OH was watching it until about 23.30 last night - on my computer!)
Have you taken the power cable out or switched it off at the wall for a couple of minutes? Works on ours.
Question Author
Yes, we have tried all that, ZacMaster, still no signal.
Have you checked All the Sky channels for a 'No Signal' fault.

There is also some info posted here that looks interesting http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/no_satellite_signal.htm
Question Author
I can't even get any channels to see - no signal - I've just had a look at that link, pinky, and will go and try this out on the box. Thanks very much.

Unfortunately no joy with information on that link. Tomorrow, in the daylight, I shall go round and check every single cable and also persuade the OH to go up the ladder and check the dish, so long as it's not blowing a gale. thank goodness my broadband is not with Sky as well any more!
have you tried the rebuild planner from services if you can get that... I had to that this morning?

Question Author
Thanks, goodsoulette, I had a look at the link, but it won't work in this case as I'm not sure there is even a signal - I turn on the TV, turn the box off standby (or reboot it for the 120th time!) but am not even getting a menu. I had a long discussion with Sky this morning and I'm getting an engineer out to it, because the box may need replacing - or the Sky dish might not be getting a signal, it is one of the older Sky+boxes - and out of warrenty. So we have to hang on until Thursday, unless it suddenly starts working again - I don't hold out much hope of that happening, as we could actually see a little bit of sky today that wasn't snow laden. Mind you, I spent quite a long time convincing the Sky advisor (!) that it wasn't still snowing this morning - I'm so glad that my broadband service isn't still with them!
My daughter had this problem and when she managed to get the snow cleared off the disc as it was not too high. Problem solved straight away.
