Synthesis And Collection Of White Phosphorus

I can understand how the white phophorus is made, but what I don't know is how to separate it from the cotton without igniting it. Below are ideas which i think can be used to collect it-
1- Immerse the testtube in water and then pull out cotton while immersed in water.
2- Pour in Carbon Disulphide, which hopefully dissolves the phosphorus. Then i can pour out the solution and wait for the carbon disulphide to evaporate.
Can anyone tell me if of them will work or suggest another method.

If you are going to try this use a fume cupboard at the very least.
