Can You Get Dvt In Your Wrist?

I had an operation last Monday and the other day noticed that the back of my wrist (where a watch would be if I wore one on that hand) was tender.

Originaly I thought I had perhaps bumped it or the needle from the catheter had poked it but it hasn't got any better. There is no bruise but there is a lump. It only hurts on the vein that runs down there and not either side and I can feel the vein is firm just at this point but not further up or down.

I don't want to make a fuss or go to the Dr if it is something silly but don't want to drop dead or anything!!

I have had a look on NHS direct but that mostly deals with dvt in legs.

Phlebitis, maybe squad??? You can get special anti-inflammatory cream that is specifically for this. You may need antibiotics if there is infection there but you dont say anything about redness so probably not/.

There is no redness or anything like that it is just a lump about 1 cm along the vein. Mind you I keep touching it so it will probably bruse and take longer to get better now LOL

I got phlebitis in hospital when I had a drip in (and they ignored me telling them something felt wrong), my arm swelled up like Popeye!

Don't worry! Only as they left it in so long :) They would put cooling dressings on it which helped a lot (mine was really hot) and it just settled itself down on its own.

Is it where they put in the needle when you had your operation ?

IN answer to 'can you get a DVT of your arm ?' Yes but it really is uncommon. One instance that springs to mind is Henri of Navarre (Oh God Onree Cat again) managed to get one waggling his sword ever so much at the Battle of Ivry 1590.
It is recorded that he couldnt use his arm for six weeks thereafter.

It is clear you dont have that.

It is much better now thanks.

It still hrts bit but is not standing as proud as it was.
