How is the teaching of slavery as part of say, the national curriculum impacted by news stories of people trafficking?

No it's like saying we should be more concerned with what is happening in Afghanistan , than what happened in the Boar War.

The nature of slavery remains the same - What happened in colonial times, the slavery upon which whole economies were founded, needs to be taught and not forgotten.

Similarly, we should be aware of the trafficking of young females into the sex trade, or indeed the trafficking of any human for impressed labour, and we should teach the dangers now.

But the 2 things are derived from the same root - Greedy exploitation and commoditisation of humans by lies and coercive threats.
