Happy I can justify country dancing, shatter, sail and canvas , but completion still has me foxed. I thought competition (for contest) would come into the mix, but can't see it.

The setter admitted that there was an error in the clue for 6d and this has now been amended on the online site to:
"Finish last of all in contest, not exactly what is looked for (10)"
