Do you know anyone who is very tight with their money, even though you know they can well afford to be otherwise?

I must mix with the wrong people, I had one friend who always had one cigarette in his packet. After apologising he couldn't share he would then secretly transfer another cigarette from another packet. Another person, after I had given countless lifts to meetings etc gave me a small bottle of vodka as payment. He then invited me into his house, poured himself a drink and gave me a glass. I had to open the bottle he'd given me and to make matters worse he said he'd found the glass while out walking one day. The third person is the worst, when he takes his wife shopping he charges her for the petrol. All three are college/university lecturers!!
Someone we used to go for a drink with used to have gin and bitter lemon when it was our round and bitter lemon when it was theirs.
A man charges his wife for petrol when he takes her shopping? More fool her for paying.
If that happened to me( which it wouldn't) I would give him a bill for every meal I cooked.
I find that incredible.
Many years ago i told my Mum that she had brought me up to be mean, she replied, " No, I brought you up to be careful". With many wise years behind me now, I agree with her and thank her for it.
We have a nice bit of money behind us,and hopefully can start thinking about retiring in the next 5 to 8 years. We can afford to buy things we want, but neither of us are stupid with our money. We still do a yellow label shop, and buy things in bulk from the wholesalers. Definatly not tight with our money, but we are sensible. x
A friend of mine collects sauce and sugar sachets from service stations to save buying any.
Yes, me :-)
A distant relative by marriage was one of the first lottery winners and won £3 million.
He had a swanky house built and bought top of the range cars for him and his wife.
He bought his mother a new coat.
Reminds me of the man who told his dad he'd won a million pounds on the lottery then gave his dad a fiver.
"What will you do with it, dad?" He asked.
"Put it towards a marriage licence for your mother and me," replied the father.
