16 down. Clue: Painful rash on the bottom after chap sits in grass (8). I have: ?C?T?I?G. I think it must be SING (grass) round C?TH which leaves SCATHING or SCYTHING but can't see the word play. Help please.

scathing sounds ok one definition is harmful or painfull
I can only think that "rash on the bottom" gives the H and chap is CAT (jazz term) offering s CAT H ing
I think 'scything' has a similar definition and is therefore a candidate. I share your dilemma Vimto as I think either would fit. 'CYT' (the 'rash' part of the clue) may be the rest of the clue, but I'm unsure.
I'm leaning more towards 'scathing' thanks to Kalahri's reasoning but am still unsure. Finished apart from this one.
