If I was to buy the DVD's of Doctor Who featuring John Pertwee and Tom Baker (my favourite), what order would I have to get them to watch them in sequence of transmission on television?

Well John Pertwee was Dr Who before Tom Baker, but the stories stand alone i think.

This link gives original broadcast date.

Go to bbc.co.uk/doctor who and check out which stories come first. Sometimes one story will follow on from another and recall events from earlier on. For example Jon Pertwee (playing the Doctor) may refer to an earlier episode featuring a certain event but if you have his episodes in the wrong transmission order you'll not know what earlier adventure he was talking about.
if you go to the bbc website, you will find there are two sites, one for the new series and a link to the "classic series" which is where you will find story/episode listings for Jon ( the "h" was dropped when he got his first passport ) Pertwee and Tom Baker.
