Best 4Wd

I want to buy a 4WD but only have around 10k to buy one. What do you think. My main priorities are reliability and MPG.

Honda HRV is top for reliability with the Suzuki Grand Vitara next and the Honda CRV 3rd. (Least they were when I did the research.)

I had a Mitsubishi which was very dependable despite being ancient but pants on economy.

I'd go for a Grand Vitara for the best mix, 3 or 5 door to suit. I've currently got a Jimny which again is very reliable.

Its not a current model but they are available second hand, fairly small and car like.
A friend had one and loved it, not really the thing for serious mud-plugging though.

I loved my jimney, kept it for 10 years and would have had it for longer except the dogs outgrew it. Stay away from jeeps, they cost megabucks to fix.

The Honda CR-V is good, Drives normaly on front wheel drive unless the front drive wheels slip then the rear wheel drive comes on aswell, it is not as good cross country as the landrover range but is more reliable.

This makes it quite good on MPG economy.

A 2008 0ne with about 5500 miles is spot on your budget.

Dont get a Range Rover then, my 2.9 ltr was lucky to get 10 mpg on a good day. But what a lovely drive, worth every penny :-))

really depends what sort of use you want it for...

I agree with Shoota ans woofy....if you dont need to tow anything too big,need good mpg and dont need luxury the Suziki is the best bet.Leave the sub £10k Land Rovers alone unless you like repair shops and fuel bills.

OK I might look at either a CRV or a suzuki.
I have never had a suzuki before though are they reliable?

Yes very.......but get one with full dealer history.What were you going to use it for honey?

Well mainly for safety really as 2 little ones now. Plus we are always getting stuck in the snow here and snow chains are a pain. We might get a small trailer soon when we buy a place here but nothing big

There's a brand new version which might push the prices down a bit on the last version - but there are not an awful lot of them about.

They are a bit slow but that may or may not be an issue

Toyota RAV4 - 2.2 D4D - good for 40+mpg and reliable.
