which is the best anti virus software(free if poss) I've tried downloading 2 off the net and 1 of them caused the trojan virus and the other was wiped out when the tower had to be serviced

You get what you pay for. I have used free anti virus software and it doesn't come close the likes of Norton etc.

But to answer your question, although there are free ones about, I think that most agree that they are not a patch on the stuff you pay for. F-Secure is only �40 and for that you get a firewall, spam blocker, parental controls and daily updates for a year, as well as a highly effective anti-virus scanner. Been using it for two months now and it has caught lots of nasties that my previous software, Norton Anti-virus, missed completely. Id call that a bargain!

Do yourself a favour and shrug off the whole problem, saving yourself time and money. Scrap your (presumed) Microsoft machine and get a Mac. Or, if you must have a PC, install and move to a Linux operating system and whistle your virus cares away.

I have a computer thats on the internet almost all day with various family members on it. I have never had any virus/spyware problems.
3 free programs: AVG for antivirus, Spybot seach and destroy for spyware/adware and Zonealarm for direct attacks on the computer.

I'm just wondering what sort of car you have that needs antivirus software. I hadn't heard of on-board computers getting a virus before now, though the dashboard computer on my Jaguar XJS seems to have a fault with the display.
