I have sold an item to someone on e-bay. They have emailed me to say it was not as described. I think it is as described, and it works very well. It is not worth them sending the item back due to postage. So I have suggested they sell it on e-bay and I will refund the difference if it doesn't make as much as they paid. They paid £5.50! Is this fair. It stated quite clearly in my advert that I do not refund postage. What do you think?

Why is it not as described? I wouldn't refund it if it's exactly as described - I'd open a dispute and argue it out.

can you be more specific as to what they are claiming is significantly different to how it was described? Is it the shade? the size? were those details written in the description inaccurately, or is it something they has interpreted from the photo and not actually asked you to clarify? People buying on ebay can sometimes imagine what something really looks like rather than ask questions,
Thanks for your replies. The item was a battery charger with 2 batteries, an adaptor plug and a connecting lead. It was well shown in the photo and described in the write up. However, the buyer says it is European and had the wrong amp in the plug. He says he would not have bid if he had known this. My view is that it works very well and I didn't know it was European when I bought it originally. I think they are just being a bit awkward. he now says he is going to take it to the resolution centre and told me to read e-bay rules, which I have and still don't quite understand why he is being awkward, unless he expects the money back, as well as postage.
Tell the buyer to send it back post haste, that you'll refund the purchase price and initial shipping costs (which cost you nothing). It's easier, I found, to just be rid of the problem. Additionally, if they try to leave a negative feedback you'll then have grounds for answering it in that you immediately corrected their displeasure.
Often, they're just fishing for a discount thinking you'll avoid the hassle of refunding for a few dollars (or in your case, pounds) discount. I had this happen recently... problem solved.

do you mean the wrong size fuse? For goodness sake, tell him you will send him an assortment of 3 5 and 13 aqmp fuses, £1 for a card of 8 from pundstretcher, just ask him if he is capable of changing a fuse though, if it was 'european' it would have 2 pins anyway, and you would have sussed that. Is the UK suddenly not 'european?'
