Returning Computer To Factory State

Does returning your computer back to its Factory State fix any problem? Such as corrupt programs which can't be fixed.

Please reply and any more information would be helpful

Returning your computer to factory state usually involves using some sort of restore disc(s). These will erase everything on your computer and put back only the programs that were on it when it left the factory (Windows and hardware drivers). You will then need to re-install all your other programs manually. Returning your computer to factory state will fix all software problems but not hardware ones (Unless driver related).

My Computer has properly broken. Doing this is the only way to fix it, unfortunatly.

Before doing anything drastic, have you tried a system restore to a date shortly after you got the computer (this is if its XP) - with W98 the restore disc usually had several options and you could do them numerically to see if they worked, it was only when the first few didnt that you could go the whole hog and go for the full restore - I didnt think this wiped your programmes though,just re-set up all the settings etc.?

Of course it will wipe the programmes off the computer. When it leaves the factory it doesn't come installed with Games / programmes.

What about programs that were on the computer when I bought it. Such as PC Friendly DVD and Internet Explorer, Media Player and Microsoft Works etc.???

Kerplunk, when I had my first PC,It had a system restore disc (orange Floppy) but I wasnt provided with any of the backup CDs for the pre-installed programmes - by using the restore disc all this did was correct the initiation and system files and NOT the programmes themselves,Im not disputing what you say but I thought the restore disc corrected the Settings that run in the background and NOT the programmes as there were many many times i did the full factory settings option and the propgrammes that I had subsequently installed were still there (This Was Windows 98 though)

Computers such as Dell and HP and most from Packard Bell and the like (Generally) come with a restore disc that when inserted and booted to will warn the user that their drive will be formatted. I am not going to post the same thing again and again. That is my input on this thread finished, I was just trying to help. Go ahead and run your restore discs and see what happens.
