Which is correct--he did a 360, or he did a 180?

What is the correct phrase? Is it, he did a 360? or he did a 180? And also, where did it originate?

Hmmm? Ones a full circle and ones a half circle... depends on the context...
if it means did a U-turn, so he ended up facing back the way he started, that's 180 degrees - half a circle. It's just geometry. Circles are divided, for mathematical purposes, into 360 degrees.
